Science Chat #13 | River Detectives and Smart Birds with Yana and Stoyan

Since the first Students for Rivers Camp in Slovenia in 2019, Yana and Elli have been working on their student project that received a Free Rivers Fund grant of € 500,-. Yana told how they managed to convert big ideas and ambitions into a realistic project that fits the budget. She explained what she learned from experts and told about her initial expectations and the reality in nature conservation projects.

Then, Yana’s father Stoyan Nikolov, an expert from the Bulgarian Society for Protection of Birds (BSPB) talked about citizen science and their online application Smart Birds. Yana and Stoyan discussed future uses of this application as it is currently being developed to collect river data!
