Science Chat #22 | The Vjosa – How science leads to conservation
Cornelia Wieser, project coordinator for the Save the Blue Heart of Europe Campaign, dives into the famous case of the Vjosa. Conny is one of the two main minds behind the NGO River Watch. She rolls out the story from where it all started to the most recent events. The announcement by the Albanian government, that the establishment of a Vjosa Wild River National Park will be preferred over hydropower development in the valley was certainly a huge one. But what role did science play in this case? What is behind this promise, received by so many conservationists with euphoria? And what has yet to be done, for this dream project to become reality? These are only some of the questions that are discussed during our first long-awaited Science Chat after the summer break!
