What is your motivation for doing research related to free-flowing rivers?
Hydropower development is often stained by corruption. In the Balkans that’s a way of life, but for a guy from the Netherlands, it is unknown territory. I want make sure that all those people, Scientists, Students, Kayakers, NGO’s, Investors, that want to help in any way, know what they’re dealing with. By developing a serious game, players can experience the corruptive elements, rather than just being told about it.
Why should we defend these wild rivers?
We tend to see sustainability measured only in numbers of carbon dioxide reduction. I’d like to see sustainability defined as: We should leave this world, less shitty than we found it. In my experience, nature and wilderness are often overlooked and undervalued. You might only miss it’s beauty once it is already gone
