What is your motivation for doing research related to free-flowing rivers?
As a geographer and hydrologist, I recognize the benefits we have from rivers and therefore I want to help conserve nature in its original form. I find my biggest motivation in the moments when upon arriving at the riverside you see how the water is free-flowing and how many lives have a home in it. The feeling is amazing and nothing can change it!
Why should we defend these wild rivers?
We should defend our rivers for the future generations. If we change their flows by building hydropower plants, we will destroy the ecosystem within and around them: it will affect the wildlife that depends on them, but also our possibility to enjoy in the nature, sports, and relaxation around those rivers. There is no life without water, and we should not destroy what nature has given us!
